Seed and Soul Club hosted a plant swap at Yerba Buena Gardens, and Seve Ghose, Executive Director of the Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy, personally offered to give guests guided tours of the grounds. That kind of generosity is exactly what showing up for your community looks like.
This is Week 4 of our Foundation Series: Start Your Marketing Without the Overwhelm
👉 If you’re just getting started, begin with Week 1.
Posting content is only half of marketing.
The other half?
Turning visibility into trust—and trust into clients.
This is especially true in local business marketing in San Francisco and the Bay Area, where people have a lot of options—and make decisions quickly.
THE PART MOST PEOPLE SKIP
Most small business owners focus on posting.
But what actually drives results? Engaging with your audience.
Being present. Talking to people. Building trust.
This week, we shift from content creation to customer engagement—the part that turns visibility into real business.
Y O U R 5 H O U R S T H I S W E E K
Hour 1-2:
ENGAGE WITH PEOPLE

Start with the people already paying attention to you.
Reply to comments
Answer DMs
Comment on other relevant or local accounts
Repost or share other content relevant to your business
This is where real connection happens.
Social media algorithms also reward interaction by showing your content to a wider audience, increasing visibility.
“Engagement starts when brands stop talking at people and start connecting with them.”
Hour 3:
BUILD CREDIBILITY (REVIEWS)
When someone finds your business, they don’t just look at your content.
They ask: “Can I trust this?”
Reviews are one of the strongest trust signals in local business marketing.
Where to focus:
Google Business Profile
Yelp (especially in the Bay Area)
Website or portfolio
Relevant industry platforms
How to start:
Choose 1–2 platforms that matter most
Ask for reviews right after a positive interaction
Make it easy to leave you a review (send a link or QR code)
You don’t need dozens—just a few strong, recent reviews can make a difference.

Hour 4:
STRENGTHEN YOUR PRESENCE
Not everyone needs a website right away, but you do need to look credible when people find you.
Focus on making your online presence clear and easy to trust:
✔ Clear bio (what you do + who it’s for)
✔ Updated photos of your work
✔ Easy way to contact you
✔ Highlights or a simple portfolio
You can build this through:
Instagram highlights
Yelp or Google Business profile
Industry directories
A simple portfolio (Notion or website)
If someone lands on your page, they should immediately understand what you do and how to contact you.
Hour 5:
REVIEW WHAT'S WORKING
You don’t need to guess—your data will tell you.
Example: Meta Business Suite shows:
Engagement
Views
Follower growth
Top-performing posts
Use this data to understand what your audience responds to—so you can do more of what works next month.

Not getting any numbers yet? Don’t get discouraged! Profile visits, comments, and even reach are good indicators that your content is working!
MONTH 1 WRAP
If you’ve followed along since Week 1, you’ve now built your marketing foundation!
By this point, you should have:
✔ Clear messaging
✔ A defined audience
✔ One main platform
✔ 4–8 posts created or scheduled
✔ A basic online presence
✔ A simple workflow
